Worm Farming Alliance

Big Sky Worm Company is now a proud member of the Worm Farming Alliance founded by Bentley Christie. I feel that this will be a big step in the right direction to help get my worm business off the ground. I’ve had alot of fun, learned much, and have been through some trials and tribulations in the short time I’ve been in business.

I’m very excited about what is to come…

Big Sky Worm Company Guarantee and Customer Satisfaction

I’ll get down to the nitty gritty of it all.  I don’t count worms!!! I try my best to make sure you get more worms than what you’re order calls for.  This reduces labor/time spent on filling orders. Which means more value for my customers. This is how I can offer worms at some of the lowest prices on eBay.

When a customer sends me an email stating that they are unsatisfied or that their worms arrived dead I typically reply within 24hrs, in most cases less.  I will ask a few questions and when I receive a reply I will either send you more worms or refund your money. I am shipping live animals and around 2% of my orders unfortunately don’t arrive safely. If you believe you didn’t receive the correct amount of worms?  I say no problem!  Let me ship you more!

What about worms left in a mailbox?

It states in my ad that worms left in a mailbox will not be guaranteed. I understand that people make mistakes so all I ask for is the customer to pay for shipping and I send a replacement order the following Monday. I also ask that the customer pays for shipping AFTER the safe arrival of the worms.

Isn’t fun what raising worms is all about?  At least for me it is.  Believe me, I won’t be retiring anytime soon from the profits of my worm business!  It’s really just a hobby for me. There are plenty of other things I can do to make better money.  I sell worms because I enjoy talking with others and helping people raise Red Wigglers. Really, I just think worms are amazing little creatures!

To all my customers who have helped to make this a fun and positive experience. It’s because of you that I will continue with this hobby. I look forward to talking with you and sharing our experiences. My site has received over 1,000 hits in just a few months. People from Canada, Belize, and the Netherlands have even found my site. I appreciate all of you ‘Worm Wranglers’ out there. Please feel free to say hi even if you are not a customer. Thanks!

It’s getting to be that time of year again…Fall.

This means leaves.  A wonderful resource for composting, leaf mold, and worm bins. I’ll be talking more about ways to utilize this often overlooked and free resource. Don’t let this resource go to waste!

Here is a source on what leaf mould is, how it can be made, and the wonderful benefits you will see from using it.

NEW!!! Organic Worm Food!

Hey Folks,

I’m now offering an organic worm food!!  This will help those customers who are looking to raise big, fat, healthy Red Wigglers. It will be particularly helpful for those raising worms for fishing.  It’s also a great way to add some nutrients to your vermicompost for those gardeners out there.  Or it can simply be used as a treat or to give a little boost to your worm bin. I encourage folks to take a look at the ingredient list of Purina Worm Chow.  Then ask yourself if this is a company or a product that you would like to support.

Let’s take a look at Purina Worm Chow ingredients:

Ground corn, ground soybean hulls, wheat middlings, dehydrated alfalfa, cane molasses, calcium carbonate, porcine meat meal, dehulled soybean meal, ground oats, ground wheat, dicalcium phosphate, monocalcium phosphate, fish meal, dried beet pulp, wheat germ, corn gluten meal, salt, soybean oil, porcine animal fat preserved with BHA, folic acid, choline chloride, DL-alpha tocopheryl acetate, riboflavin, pyridoxine hydrochloride, nicotinic acid, menadione dimethylpyrimidinol bisulphate, calcium pantothenate, vitamin B-12 supplement, vitamin A acetate, manganous oxide, zinc oxide, ferrous carbonate, copper, sulfate, zinc sulfate, calcium iodate, cobalt carbonate.

Menadione dimethylpyrimidinol bisulphate has been banned from use in human supplements. BHA has been known to cause cancer. Purina is currently in a class-action lawsuit where thousands of pet owners claim that their dogs have been sickened or killed by Purina products.

Here is my ingredient list:  (all ingredients are certified organic)

alfalfa meal
neem seed meal
oyster shell meal
kelp meal
crab meal
fish meal
glacial rock dust
bio-char (terra preta)

All of these ingredients are finely ground. I recommend using 2 tablespoons per square foot of bin space lightly sprinkled on the surface. Perhaps once a week depending on your individual situation.  A day or two after sprinkling this on the surface you will like see a white fuzz growing from it.  This is a good thing. It will be followed by a feeding frenzy soon resulting in larger, healthier worms.

Thanks for taking a look. This offering should be up on eBay by tomorrow.  I’m asking $14.99 for 3lbs currently.  I may start including a small amount for free w/ orders over 500 worms. Please let me know if this sorta thing is of interest to any of you.

It seems as though alot of my customers are buying worms to use as chicken feed. I think this is a wonderful idea. I just began raising some turkeys and chickens this year. I have some ideas and hopefully a few pictures I’ll be sharing as far as how to make this easy, cost-effective (free), and low maintenance.  Linda, if you’re out there, try and keep me motivated! Thanks.
