I’m now offering an organic worm food!! This will help those customers who are looking to raise big, fat, healthy Red Wigglers. It will be particularly helpful for those raising worms for fishing. It’s also a great way to add some nutrients to your vermicompost for those gardeners out there. Or it can simply be used as a treat or to give a little boost to your worm bin. I encourage folks to take a look at the ingredient list of Purina Worm Chow. Then ask yourself if this is a company or a product that you would like to support.
Let’s take a look at Purina Worm Chow ingredients:
Ground corn, ground soybean hulls, wheat middlings, dehydrated alfalfa, cane molasses, calcium carbonate, porcine meat meal, dehulled soybean meal, ground oats, ground wheat, dicalcium phosphate, monocalcium phosphate, fish meal, dried beet pulp, wheat germ, corn gluten meal, salt, soybean oil, porcine animal fat preserved with BHA, folic acid, choline chloride, DL-alpha tocopheryl acetate, riboflavin, pyridoxine hydrochloride, nicotinic acid, menadione dimethylpyrimidinol bisulphate, calcium pantothenate, vitamin B-12 supplement, vitamin A acetate, manganous oxide, zinc oxide, ferrous carbonate, copper, sulfate, zinc sulfate, calcium iodate, cobalt carbonate.
Menadione dimethylpyrimidinol bisulphate has been banned from use in human supplements. BHA has been known to cause cancer. Purina is currently in a class-action lawsuit where thousands of pet owners claim that their dogs have been sickened or killed by Purina products.
Here is my ingredient list: (all ingredients are certified organic)
neem seed meal
oyster shell meal
glacial rock dust
bio-char (terra preta)
All of these ingredients are finely ground. I recommend using 2 tablespoons per square foot of bin space lightly sprinkled on the surface. Perhaps once a week depending on your individual situation. A day or two after sprinkling this on the surface you will like see a white fuzz growing from it. This is a good thing. It will be followed by a feeding frenzy soon resulting in larger, healthier worms.
Thanks for taking a look. This offering should be up on eBay by tomorrow. I’m asking $14.99 for 3lbs currently. I may start including a small amount for free w/ orders over 500 worms. Please let me know if this sorta thing is of interest to any of you.
